The star has donated the entirety of his £25,000 award winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the UK's grassroots music venues.

Fender was given the award on 16 October as his third album his work was chosen as the top album of the past year.

The musician has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the shows I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

He also joined in, raising over £100k on his live tour to help numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money assisted locations that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges arising from flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues received monetary aid in improving infrastructure and technical equipment that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from shows in large arenas backs the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is far from the only musician to give his award winnings to good deeds.

In the band won the trophy in the mid-90s for their record their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would contribute their winnings to the organization the charity.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite divided her award across a few good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I gave a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," she told outlets.

Previously, the band donated their prize money to the local youth club that nurtured their group, in addition to other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients the group gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," remarked artist the singer. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust announced it had saved several small stages in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in that area and The Croft in that location were purchased under the community ownership program, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the buildings.
