Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
